October 2013: The elegant four-star Protea Hotel The Richards in the heart of Zululand has completed a soft refurbishment of some 100 rooms.
Protea Hotel The Richards is the largest hotel conference centre in Richard’s Bay and surrounds.
Protea Hotel The Richards GM Dominic Prendergast says because the hotel is such a popular conferencing and executive traveller base, it was difficult to find one specific quiet period to do the rooms refurbishment in one go.
“We’ve therefore been modernising the rooms over a period of a few months, but everything is now complete.”
From the palm-fringed swimming pool to the airy The Mossel signature restaurant, Protea Hotel The Richards has a sweeping luxurious feel that harks back to a more elegant bygone era of long sojourns in the tropics.
The newly decorated rooms with their cool, pale flooring and soft green tones bring the beauty of the subtropics into the space, with grounding dark wood accents that perpetuate the feel of luxury.
The hotel is the perfect group and conferencing location in Richard’s Bay; just 15 minutes from the airport and close to the CBD and main industrial areas, yet quiet and ideally suited to executive traveller needs.
Andrew Rogers, CEO of the Hospitality Property Fund that owns the hotel, says: “The public area spaces were renovated in 2009 and the remaining bedrooms have now been completed. The Hotel is ideally positioned to offer the market a well-designed modern contemporary styled bedroom. The latest technologies have been incorporated and the ergonomically designed workspaces able to meet all the travellers demands.”
Danny Bryer, Director of Sales, Marketing and Revenue, says Protea Hotel The Richards is the 14th Protea Hotel to undergo refurbishment this year.
“There is ongoing investment in properties within our portfolio to exceed brand standards and to provide GUESTS with the best experience possible in our hotels. There is no doubt GUESTS will enjoy spending time in these stylish new rooms.”
