Protea Hotel Ranch Resort in Polokwane has unveiled a new soccer pitch on its premises. The soccer pitch forms part of the hotel’s ongoing efforts to meet the unique market and needs of the professional TEAMS that use the unique property as a base when competing in the region.
“The Protea Hospitality Group supports sport for a number of reasons: it brings communities together, gives children positive role models and, in the case of the Protea Hotel Ranch Resort soccer pitch, it will boost the local economy, too,” says Danny Bryer, Director of Sales, Marketing and Revenue for the Protea Hospitality Group.
Tom Shearer, owner of the Protea Hotel Ranch Resort, explains that the pitch was built as a result of the lack of quality training facilities in Limpopo province. Since the opening of the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in 2010 many prominent PSL soccer TEAMS have been GUESTS at the resort ahead of their matches.
“Professional TEAMS who book with us won’t have to worry about having to travel to train anymore because they can simply use our field. We hope that this will encourage more professional TEAMS to stay longer at Protea Hotel Ranch Resort.”
He said Super Rugby TEAMS were also showing interest in Protea Ranch Hotel Resort’s training facilities.
“We are planning to add two or more pitches in the future, because we want to eventually host football and rugby tournaments at the resort.”
The resort offers a landing strip, conferencing and event facilities, a tennis court, four swimming pools, a fitness centre, a 12-hole golf course and a golf academy. It is possibly best known for its Walk with Lions experience, where GUESTS have the opportunity to walk with lions in their natural habitat.
