Zululand

Zululand

Zululand is a vast area of beautiful parks and reserves situated in the north-east of KwaZulu-Natal. Due to the protection provided by these parks, much of the landscape is in the same condition it was found before humans arrived.

This province offers many opportunities to view the Big Five, as well as cheetah, giraffe and hippo. The lush, paradise mimicking vegetation and fauna creates the perfect backdrop to witness Africa as it was. Excellent game reserves and parks in Zululand are abound, and include the iSimangaliso Wetland Park (formerly known as The Greater St Lucia Wetlands National Park), Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, Phinda, Mkuzi, Enseleni Game Reserve, and Ithala.

Zululand has many historical and ecological sites of interest. The Zulu nation went to war with the British in the region and the area contains many landmarks from the Anglo Boer War. Visitors can witness Zulu culture first hand on the Township Tours. Major towns include Empangeni, Richard's Bay, and the St Lucia area.
