Wilderness Wilderness is an enchanting resort town hidden away in the Outeniqua Mountains and bordered by a beautiful forest. The area is famous for its vast stretches of quiet beaches and its peaceful lagoon. A popular venue for waterskiing and ideal spot for whale watching, Wilderness is a nature lover's paradise. It offers innumerable activities like angling, hiking, bird watching and horse riding. Kaaimans River Bridge is a much favoured spot for photography as it offers an unparalleled view of the surrounding scenery, which really is breathtaking. From its vantage point you can see the winding body of the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe travelling along the coastline between George and Knysna. The Wilderness National Park is a picturesque world of lakes, fens, rivers and beaches, set against the backdrop of lush forest and spectacular mountains. There are amazing nature trails that wind through the park, just like the Serpentine River winds its way like a silver ribbon through the landscape. Bird watchers are offered a rare treat, as the park is home to the brilliantly coloured Knysna Loerie, as well as an abundance of indigenous birdlife. A great picnic spot can be found just below the Woodville Big tree, which is over eight hundred years old. The nearby Pied Kingfisher Trail is a lovely walkway among the forest and is wheelchair friendly. |
