Careers At Protea Hotels

Protea Hotels have always believed that in order to achieve the levels of service excellence that we strive for, we need to hire people that are well suited for our industry and then equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver quality service consistently.

In terms of this commitment towards developing the competencies of Protea people, the "Protea Hotels Institute for Professional Development (PHIPD) - A Forum for the Future" was launched in January 2001.

Certain registered "Training Hotels" managed by our Company operate, in conjunction with Regional Hotel Schools, a three-year programme to equip trainees with practical skills and a broad knowledge of the hospitality industry.

The trainees work in all the different departments of the hotel to gain a practical insight into Hotel operations, whilst the theoretical aspect of the Hospitality Industry are covered by study-release periods at the Hotel Schools. The trainees are also required to study in their own time.

The two development programmes run by Protea Hotels are:

  1. Diploma in Hospitality Services Management
  2. Certificate in Professional Cookery

 

Requirements for admission

In order to be considered for the course applicants must:

  1. be over 18 year of age and ideally not over the age of 23 years at the commencement of the course;
  2. be in possession of an academic matric certificate with accounts as a subject
  3. have had at least one year’s full-time employment in the hotel industry
  4. be willing to sign a contract, or where under legal age, be able to present proof of parents / guardians consent to sign
