Stellenbosch

Home to the University of Stellenbosch, the charming student town of Stellenbosch is the second oldest town in the country. It lies in a beautiful valley, surrounded by countless vineyards, orchards and breathtaking mountains. It's also the capital of the famous Cape Wine Route, which has over a hundred cellars that are open to the public.

The beautiful oak-lined Dorp Street has been declared a national monument. This legendary street has one of the longest rows of surviving Cape Dutch buildings in South Africa. It is a glorious oasis of open-air restaurants, cafes and quaint shops, perfect for gentle walks to take in the many historical sites and museums.

The wine estates near Stellenbosch are excellent attractions for the whole family. Play golf, have a picnic on rolling lawns, go horseback riding along great trails, stroke cheetahs or even make friends with a falcon.

The Stellenbosch Jonkershoek Nature Reserve offers several hiking trails ranging from easy scenic walks to the more challenging Panorama Trail. The Vineyard Hiking trail meanders through beautiful vineyards, best enjoyed in spring. There are also a few overnight hikes set amongst unparalleled scenery.
