Refurbishment starts at Protea Hotel Kruger Gate
The Protea Hotel Kruger Gate, situated just 100m from the Paul Kruger Gate of the Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga, starts the first phase of its refurbishment plan this month that will encompass the rooms, elevated walkways, conference facilities, restaurant and perhaps most importantly, infrastructural changes that will see a marked improvement in water and energy consumption.
This refurbishment is part of Protea Hotels' on-going commitment to exceeding GUEST expectations at each of its 130+ hotels across Africa. “To maintain the high standards and culture of service excellence that GUESTS associate with Protea Hotels, we decided, along with the hotel owners, to upgrade the rooms and facilities at this scenic hotel,” said Protea Hospitality Group Director of Sales, Marketing and Revenue, Danny Bryer.
The hotel, on the banks of the Sabie River, offers a luxurious bush getaway to both international and domestic travellers, as well as a unique conference destination for up to 220 people.
The room refurbishments will make a dramatic change to the GUEST experience. Big sliding doors will replace small-paned French doors allowing GUESTS to enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush from the comfort of their rooms. Flat-screen TVs are being installed and rooms will have stylish L-shaped day bed couches that’ll allow for two adults and two children to share, as well as relax in comfort as a family. The rooms will also have more desk space with the inclusion of polished wooden slabs, and the bathrooms are being remodelled to include enormous walk-in showers. The soft furnishings in the room will also be replaced, as will the air-conditioning systems.
The elevated walkways that are the hallmark of Protea Hotel Kruger Gate will receive solid covers to protect GUESTS from rain and midday sun, while the restaurant is to be redone with new lighting, furniture, equipment and buffet space. In the conference rooms aesthetic changes will include new lighting, paint and some soft furnishings.
Protea Hospitality Group Operations Director William Ford said the bulk of the refurbishment spend would go toward projects that would reduce the property’s environmental footprint such as removing individual geysers in the rooms and upgrading to a centralised water system. The electrical system was also being upgraded as was the sewerage system, while all air-conditioning units would be inverted to be as environmentally sensitive as possible.
Protea Hospitality Group Director of Sales Marketing and Revenue, Danny Bryer, said the room renovations would be done block by block so as to greatly reduce the noise and visual impact for GUESTS. “This refurbishment is being done over the quieter winter months. GUESTS spending spring and summer with us later this year will have impressive new facilities to look forward to,” Bryer said.
The work should be completed by September this year.
