PROTEA HOTELS CLASSIC CAR AUCTION RAISES R80 000+ FOR CHARITY |

Protea Hotels’ first ever classic car auction at the Midas George Old Car Show in February this year raised more than R80 000 for charity. Nine cars and three artists’ prints were sold at two auctions, one at the Midas George Old Car Show at the PW Botha College and the other at a gala dinner at the Protea Hotel King George. Among the cars on Aucor’s auction block were a 1923 Dodge Bros Tourer, 1971 Ford Mustang convertible and a Dennis Fire Engine. The auctioneer’s 10% commission on these vehicles was donated to charity, as was 100% of the 5 star African Pride Hotels weekend breaks that also went under the hammer. The charities that benefited were Reach for a Dream (Protea Hotels main charity) and the organisers of the show, the Southern Cape Old Car Club (to distribute to local charities in George). The George Old Car Show is arguably the best classic car show in South Africa. It attracts more than 900 classic, hot-rod and modified cars from across the country. Part of the charm of the show is its location at the PW Botha College on York Str (the main entrance route into George) with the Outeniqua Mountains serving as a backdrop for row upon row of these inspiring machines. The popular show, that attracts thousands of visitors from across South Africa, is hosted by the Southern Cape Old Car Club. Protea Hotels Group Marketing and Advertising Manager Nicholas Barenblatt said: “The auction was such a success that we will definitely be doing it at next year’s George Old Car Show, which is scheduled for February 11 and 12.” Those interested should keep an eye on the motoring specials page of Protea Hotels website www.proteahotels.com/motoring |
