Appreciated for its beautiful indigenous forests, striking lagoons and golden beaches that continue into the horizon, the Garden route has gained a reputations as South Africa's "Eden". Protea Hotel Wilderness Resort is strategically located in the heart of the Garden Route, close to most tourist attractions and towns in the area.

The Garden Route has a Mediterranean maritime climate, with moderately hot summers and mild to chilly winters. The temperate weather falls between to climatic regions of summer and winter rainfall so, as it rains mostly at night, the area is kept perenially green. Conference and banqueting facilities available for up to 300 delegates.

Features

The Outeniqua Ladies Bar is a cosy pub for that lazy sundowner and friendly conversation, while the Loerie Restaurant serves delicious buffet breakfasts and tempting dinners, as well as a traditional Sunday Carvery, with an abundance of oysters, on Sunday afternoons. The hotel also offers a spacious and comfortable lounge, which offers a la carte lunches throughout the week, also ideal for informal business meetings.

Leisure facilities include lazing on the beach or at one of two pools. There is also a bowling green, miniature golf, tennis, squash court, gym and outdoor chess. The Wellness Centre & Spa in the hotel offers spa treatments to GUESTS, as well as the use of the pool. Unfortunately, this area is not accessible to children under 16.

Location

The Protea Hotel Wilderness Resort Hotel lies just off the N2 National Road, between George and Knysna in the Garden Route.

Only 27 kms from George Airport, 30 minutes' drive to Knysna, 65 kms from Mossel Bay and approximately four hours` drive from Cape Town.

Attractions

Explore the surroundings and visit the nearby Wilderness National Park, Featherbed Nature Reserve, the Otter Trail, Tsitsikamma National Park or the scenic Bushbuck and Kingfisher Trails. The spectacular Sedgefield lakes district nearby, with its abundance of bird life and nature trails, is a must for nature lovers. For more adventurous travellers, the area offers a variety of outdoor activities including paragliding and parasailing off Dolphin's Point, kloofing, abseiling and canoeing. Alternatively, go for a leisurely ride in the Outeniqua choo-tjoe, a genuine steam train, which runs between George and Knysna, or visit the famous Cango Caves, crocodile and ostrich farms in Oudtshoorn.

The Wellness Centre and Spa caters for a variety of GUESTS who have differing demands of a spa. These needs are all addressed in the amount and variation of treatments on offer at the spa. The spa operates on the premises of the Protea Hotel Wilderness Resort and maintains the following times of operation

   08h00 to 20h00 (Summer)
   09h00 to 19h00 (Winter)
2. Sundays and Public Holidays:
   08h00 to 17h00 (Summer)
   09h00 to 17h00 (Winter)

Spa amenities include a Rasul Chamber, Private Massage Rooms, a Vichy Shower & Scotch Hose Room, a Standard Wet Treatment Room, Hydrotherapy Bath, Facial and Beauty Rooms and a Sauna.

The Spa also boasts a large outdoor Jet Pool.

The Gym is only available from 08h00 to 20h00 at a R50.00 charge per GUEST staying in the hotel and contains

Regrettably, children under the age of 16 are not allowed at the Spa, Gym or pool areas.

Rooms

Stylish and elegant, the comfortably appointed 152 luxury rooms at the Protea Hotel Wilderness Resort offer stunning views in a garden setting.

All rooms are en-suite, with air-conditioning, tea & coffee making facilities and colour TV with M-Net and DSTV.

Family rooms can accommodate a family of 4 or 6 and are provided on request, when availability allows.

The Loerie Restaurant

At the Protea Hotel Wilderness Resort, we still believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Therefore we serve a mouthwatering buffet breakfast which will satisfy your every desire from 07h00 – 10h00 daily. From freshly baked croissants and pastries to fluffy omelettes. From delicious bacon to waffles and ice cream. Definitely something to eat for the whole family!

From 10h00 – 17h00 daily we serve lighter meals in the Lounge and on the patio which overlooks the beautiful Lagoon and Wilderness Beach. Not hungry? Try one of our delicious lattes or how about an ice cold beer?

Dinner is served from 19h00 to 22h00 also in the Loerie Restaurant. We serve a full buffet dinner which includes, soup, a selection of starters, two roasts, vegetables in season, potatoes, rice and gravy, salads and a selection of desserts.

We also offer a magnificent Sunday lunch from 12h30 to 15h00 every Sunday (Prokard Members Welcome).
