PROTEA HOTEL VICTORIA JUNCTION REFURB ON TRACK
September 1 this year will be a double celebration; the first day of Spring and the day the new-look Protea Hotel Victoria Junction in Cape Town opens it’s fabulous doors.
The hotel was shut in May for a four-month total make-over that will see Cape Town’s first truly themed hotel sporting a sleek new look. Retaining the industrial charm, the hotel will say goodbye to the film nuances throughout the property that have been its hallmark since opening doors 15 years ago.
“The project sees the refurbishment of all 148 standard rooms and 24 loft rooms, as well as an extensive refurbishment of the restaurant, reception and other public areas on the ground floor,” said General Manager Pieter Buitendag. “The refurbishment is running on schedule with bedrooms moving into the fitting and furniture phase, while joinery work has started in the restaurant and public areas. The refurbishment is expected to be completed by its due date and we’re immensely excited about the reopening in September.”
The revamp includes new walk-in rain showers in the rooms, while the décor changes and finishes will reflect modern design trends and lends substantially more light to the in-room experience. Technology and environmental factors were also included in the planning. GUESTS can look forward to Bravia LCD screens, iPod docking stations, international adaptor installations and bathrooms that feature more environmentally friendly fixtures.
In the public areas, the new restaurant and bar will be more reflective of current trends, featuring a lighter open-plan, free-flowing space. The hotel is also adding a gym for guests.
Protea Hospitality Group Marketing and Advertising Manager Nicholas Barenblatt said the Protea Hotel Victoria Junction had long been a Cape Town landmark because of its modern theme and location, which was within easy walking distance of the Cape Quarter, the Cape Town Stadium and the V&A Waterfront.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the transformation of Cape Town’s original themed hotel and welcoming back our loyal guests with Protea’s warm hospitality,” Barenblatt said.
