Cape Town, 18 November 2010: Meatless Mondays have taken the Mother City by storm in recent months, following the City of Cape Town’s official endorsement of the global movement to reduce meat consumption, making it the first city in Africa to do so. Protea Hotel Victoria Junction’s The Set Restaurant is spearheading the charge to encourage Capetonians and visitors to explore a healthier lifestyle through the introduction of their Meatless Mondays special. The restaurant’s Monday special offers a wide variety of sumptuous meat-free delights, certain to entice even the most ardent carnivore. Some of the chef’s signature dishes include a mouth watering Zucchini and Peanut Burger and a poached quail eggs and kalahari truffle topped asparagus combo. Starting on November 22nd, diners will be able to indulge in a three course vegetarian set menu over and above the current offerings, at a price of just R150. Pieter Buitendag, General Manager of Protea Hotel Victoria Junction, expressed excitement at this development. “Protea Hotel Victoria Junction has always been committed to reducing our environmental impact, and we are thrilled to be part of this initiative. Our aim is to quash, once and for all, the preconception that vegetarian food is bland and unappetising with our fantastic and varied menu.” Nicholas Barenblatt, Group Marketing and Advertising Manager for the Protea Hotel Group, applauded the initiative. “All hotels within our portfolio are strongly encouraged to search for innovative and relevant ways to reduce their carbon footprint, and this serves as a perfect example, in addition to adding tangible benefits for guests.” |
