Protea Hotel Upington Set to Unveil Grand New Look
In a month’s time Protea Hotel Upington is set to reveal its stylish new look with an additional 29 rooms under construction, a new restaurant that allows for indoor and outdoor dining, a gym and an extensive conference centre.
Upington, on the banks of the Orange River in the Northern Cape, is the gateway to the majestic Kalahari Desert, and the perfect base from which to explore the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and Augrabies Fall National Park
Protea Hotel Upington owners Willie and Kathy Burger are extending the number of rooms on the property from 61 to 90. The light and stylish new rooms boast walk-in showers as well as executive work stations. Like the other rooms, they will have Wi-Fi connectivity and offer air-conditioning against the desert heat (and cold!)
The new rooms will complement the soft upgrade to the 61 existing rooms, which are being painted and getting new floors and luxurious new bedding.
The hotel, which has previously offered only breakfast, is also opening an elegant restaurant with a fireplace and an outdoor courtyard overlooking the swimming pool. The light menu will be available all day from 10am onwards and the new restaurant is the perfect place to relax with a cappuccino or a cocktail.
To cater to a broader business and social event clientele, Protea Hotel Upington is also extending its conference and event facilities with the construction of a large function venue that can accommodate up to 230 delegates, or divide into three smaller venues for more intimate gatherings. A separate, well appointed boardroom is going to be added to the hotel’s conferencing offering as well from the end of October.
The final addition is a gym, which will be the first time this facility had ever been offered to GUESTS at the hotel. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art exercise machines to provide a workout to the most serious trainer.
The Protea Hotel Upington is due to reopen at the end of October, 2012 and the new development has created 15 new staff positions within the hotel, which will be filled with the target of youth empowerment in mind.
Protea Hospitality Group Director of Sales, Marketing and Revenue, Danny Bryer, said this project is one of nearly 20 hotels in the portfolio that are being upgraded.
“It reaffirms the hotel OWNERS’ commitment to improving their properties for the best GUEST experience, and maintaining the Protea Hotels Brand Standard that sees most of our business originating from return GUESTS,” Bryer said. “The new offerings at Protea Hotel Upington will be draw-cards and I have no doubt that they will prove to be popular with GUESTS and visitors alike.”
