The Hotel

Surrounded by the 13 000 hectare Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, this Highveld getaway, voted by consumers as one of the top Twenty caravan parks in the country, is situated about 40km south of Johannesburg.

This shaded caravan and camping park and 240 (mostly) grassed stands all equipped with power points, four neat and spacious ablution facilities (including laundries), as well as 6 smaller ablution units. Picnic shelters and a lapa are available for day conferences as well. Catering can be done for groups - large and small.

The first of the new chalets are open, as is the 120-seater Auditorium, which has all the modern electronic and audio-visual equipment available. Chalets in the Kiepersol Village, together with a private restaurant and meeting facilities are also available.

15km from Meyerton and 54km from Johannesburg International Airport, Protea Hotel Suikerbosrand is close to the Heidelberg Military Camp and Museum.

AG Visser House
Van der Westhuizen Str. Dr AG Visser renowned early Afrikaans poet, resided and practised as the local doctor in this house.

Concentration Camp Cemetery
View the graves of woman and children of who died during the Second War of Independence.

Diepkloof Farm Museum
20km On the Nigel road you would find the old restored farmhouse built in 1850.

Heidelberg Transport Museum
Opened in 1975 by the Rembrandt group as a service to the community.

Klipkerk
Its name meaning 'stonechurch', the corner of this beautiful sandstone edifice was laid in 1890, 25 years after the finding of congregation.

The Old Jail
old Jail The jail was built in 1888 and first served as a hospital and home for the underprivileged. The building has stood empty since 1963 when a new jail was built. It is now being restored.

Bakoond
During the Second War of Independence, the Boers built a ``bakoond" over the water fountain to hide it from the British forces. In this way, they safe-guarded their supply of water.
