Accommodation is in individually decorated thatched or luxury suites with en-suite bathrooms, while the past echoes in the memorabilia-filled Blaasbalk Bar. Wining and dining available in a choice of venues, while various sporting and leisure activities are available at the hotel and nearby.

Other dining venues include the Private Dining Rooms, for intimate and private dinners or cocktail parties, The Patio for breakfast and lunches, unique bush braais and the pool deck.

Three fully-equipped conference venues seat from 8 to 60 delegates, also ideal for weddings and other functions. Teambuilding sessions can be arranged, with group volleyball competitions, treasure hunts or potjiekos competitions. Theme evenings - an English Pub, Mauritian, Out of Africa, Chinese or traditional braais - can be arranged.

Location

Situated on a 32 hectare farm between Bela-Bela and Modimolle, an hour's drive from Pretoria and 1 hours from Johannesburg. Only 14km from Modimolle and 18km from Modimolle airport.

Directions to Protea Hotels Shangri-La

From Pretoria

1. Follow the N1 towards Polokwane (Pietersburg)
2. Take the Modimolle (Nylstroom) off ramp at the Kranskop Tollgate, turn left at the T-junction and follow the road towards Modimolle (Nylstroom)
3. Turn left at Eersbewoond and continue for approximately 3km until you find the Protea Hotel Shangri-La turn on your right
4. Continue on dirt road for 3 km until you reach Protea Hotels Shangri-La

From Polokwane (Pietersburg)

1. Follow the N1 south towards Pretoria, pass Mokopane (Potgietersrus), Mookgophong (Naboomspruit) and take the Modimolle (Nylstroom) off ramp
2. Continue on this road until you reach the first 4 way traffic light intersection
3. Turn left into Nelson Mandela Drive and continue until you have left the CBD
4. Travel on for approximately 8km until you find the Eersbewoond Road on your right. Turn right at Eersbewoond and continue for approximately 3km, until you find Protea Hotels Shangri-La turnoff on your right
5. Continue on dirt road for 3 km until you reach Protea Hotels Shangri-La

1. THABA KWENA CROCODILE FARM - the biggest breeding crocodile farm open to the public in the Southern Hemisphere. Feeding times are most interesting
2. MOKOPA REPTILE PARK, a well known snake park in the area, with a good variety of reptile species and some very rare snake species, like the Albino Burmese Boa
3. NYLSVLEY BIRD SANCTUARY AND FLOOD AREA, the largest inland floodplain in Southern Africa covers 16000 ha when fully wet, whereof approximately 4000 ha are formally reserved as the Nylsvley Bird Sanctuary. It is one of the most important breeding places of birds in the country, with some red listed species
