Fully supervised and professionally managed by an experienced and qualified team who has been working with lions for many years, this close encounter is hard to describe. Skilled guide, Mr Frank Kasakamula, has 15 years experience with lions of which the past 9 years have been at the resort. The ‘Walk With Lions’ experience is attracting attention from all parts of the world, where before this kind of interaction was never thought possible, it comes highly recommended from everyone that has experienced it.

Protea Hotel Ranch Resort is now home to rare and endangered white lions, Mohlatsi the male white lion shares his experiences with his friends and followers on facebook (Mohlatsi Lucky-One) and twitter (@Mohlatsi).

Features

There are three restaurants available - The Buttery Family Restaurant, which is open all day for meals, Golf Club House serving snack meals and Basil's Fine Dining Restaurant, with its sumptuous a la carte menu, is one of only two restaurants in the Limpopo Province to be awarded the world acclaimed "Chaine des Rotisseurs" French award.

Old Joe's Bar & Lounge is well known for its friendly atmosphere and vast selection of different drinks and cocktails and features surround-sound, leather upholstered couches, plasma screen tvs.

A babysitting service is available on request and room service operates 18 hours a day.

Landscaped Gardens

Beautifully manicured tranquil gardens, rolling lawns and glorious flowers offer a truly unique and memorable experience for each and every GUEST that stays with us. Wedding’s are our speciality and within the heart of our rose garden, lays our in-house non-denominational Chapel.

Sporting Facilities

All the following are available on the premises: 4 swimming pools of which two are heated, fitness centre, steam room, jogging trail, flood lit tennis court, mountain biking, kids playground, trampolines ,animal farm and an 12-hole par-3 Executive golf course and academy. A soccer pitch built to international standards will be available to teams for off season training camps by min May 2012.

Kolobe Tented Camp

Kolobe tented camp offers teambuilding facilities, tucked away within the 1000 hectare conservancy to ensure complete privacy. It is designed totally appropriately to its bush surroundings, and includes a fully equipped kitchen and canteen facilities, ablution block, camp fire lapa area and ample space to enjoy outdoor activities.

The tents are built on raised cement slabs, with their own groundsheets and natural airflow design for maximum comfort and protection from the elements. There is a combination of large dormitory type tents and smaller 2 or 4 person tents. This selection makes Kolobe the ideal setting for church groups, school groups, 4x4 enthusiasts, team building events and sporting groups.

A Camp Manager is always on hand for the duration of any camp to assist guests in gaining full value from their stay. At full capacity, the Camp can sleep 76 people. When the day of departure arrives, you will take fond memories and a longing to return with you.

Fly in Destination

Centrally located within the province, the resort boasts a private 1 200m landing strip and helipad, while courtesy transport can be arranged from Polokwane's Gateway International airport 25 km south of the property.

The hotel is situated on 1000 hectares of country bushveld, only two hours drive north of Pretoria on the N1 Toll Road and 20 minutes south of Polokwane. Nearest airport is 25 km.

The Conservancy

In addition to, the conservancy is home to about 30 species of game ranging from the king of the beasts to giraffe and little bush babies. Some of the lions who live here, and other species, are famous film stars, having ‘acted’ in over 400 films and documentaries over the past several years.

These films include block busters such as “The Gods must be Crazy” and the “Ghost in the Darkness”. As the lion cubs are bottle fed and hand raised, safe public interaction is assured.

Guests may enjoy daily game drives and lions tours. Bookings need to be made in advance for all tours and activities.

The hotel offers 150 rooms which include Presidential suites, executive suites, family suites, spacious deluxe rooms and self-catering chalets. The rooms are designed with large cottage style windows (all with mosquito netting) to ensure maximum natural light, and the opportunity to see the expansive views onto the colourful and tranquil surrounding gardens.

The addition to the list is the 12-hole, par-3 Executive Golf Course and Academy, where 20 two bedroom five star self-catering suites have been built, overlooking the expansive views of the lush green course, and attractive small dams.

The luxurious 5-star chalets , sleeping up to 6 people, comprises of a fully equipped kitchenette, open plan lounge and dining area, undercover patio & built-in braai. There are 2 inter-leading en-suite bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and the other with 2 x three-quarter beds. There is also an L-shaped sleeper couch in the lounge, suitable for two adults.

The conservancy is home to over 29 magnificent lions that can entertain guests with a private Lion show against the backdrop of bonfires at sunset, and dining under the velvet African starlit skies. Golf Course

EXECUTIVE GOLF COURSE AND ACADEMY

Protea Hotel Ranch Resort boasts a magnificent par 3 Golf Course and Academy. This 12 hole Executive Course overlooks expansive views of the surrounding countryside. A 1000 hectare conservancy and the Ranch Lion Park border the golf estate.

The whole development includes a Golf Clubhouse, with a Pro Shop, and the Golf Academy offers coaching to established players and beginners. This concept is unique and the first of its kind in Limpopo. Protea Hotel Ranch Resort with its wide range of recreational and business facilities is conveniently and centrally situated within Limpopo and there is easy access from both the N1 and the R101 roads.

On either side of the main Clubhouse are 20 beautifully appointed two bedroom five star self catering suites that include a central living area. The design of the suites and the range of equipment available will make your stay pleasurable and comfortable. The lounge has 2 sleeper couches for a total sleeping capacity of 6 persons per unit.

All units have wide covered patios with built-in braai overlooking the lush green course and attractive dams.
The resident Golf Pro is Sean Pappas, and bookings should be made directly at the Pro-shop for individual and group tuition and coaching. Both total beginners to the game of golf, and seasoned players needing to fine tune their game, are welcome.
