The luxurious 31-roomed Protea Hotel Mossel Bay is a graceful landmark, built in 1846, overlooking Santos Bay and harbour. Nestling on the Mossel Bay shoreline with the majestic Outeniqua mountains as a backdrop, the Protea Hotel Mossel Bay is singled out from other establishments.

The stone walls and Mediterranean-style out-buildings belie the fact that the main building is one of the oldest in Mossel Bay and forms part of the Dias Museum Complex. Previously The Old Post Office Tree Manor Hotel, the Protea Hotel Mossel Bay, situated a 5 min walk from Santos Beach, could best be described as a hotel complex.

It comprises of a breakfast patio with sea view, the Cafe Gannet Seafood Restaurant - "Mossel Bay's Seafood House", overlooking the Bay and Outeniqua Mountains. The Legendary Blue Oyster Cocktail Lounge, adjacent to the pool, overlooks Santos Beach & Munro's Bay.

Added attractions are the close proximity to shopping facilities, the yacht club, harbour and north-facing, sun splashed beaches. 1. Take N2 to Mossel Bay. Continue straight on with N2 and becomes R102 - Louis Fourie Rd
2. After 4th traffic light, take left off-ramp to Mossel Bay into Marsh Street
3. At first Traffic light turn right into Marsh Street; Continue downhill
4. At the corner of Marsh and Church Street traffic lights, turn left into Church Street

From Port Elizabeth

1. Take N2 to Mossel Bay. Take left off ramp to Mossel Bay - at first Yield sign, turn left
2. 1st Traffic light turn right into Louis Fourie Rd (Shell garage on left)
3. Continue straight on Louis Fourie, passing 2 more traffic lights
4. Turn left at the intersection marked George Rd, approx 2km from last traffic light
5. Cnr of Church and George Str traffic light, turn left (FNB on left)

1. Take the R328 out of Oudtshoorn towards the N2, follow Mossel Bay signs
2. Continue on this road over the mountains and down to Hartenbos
3. Pass Hartenbos on the left. Continue straight road turns into Louis Fourie

   The museum houses many implements, photographs and artefacts of the early history of Mossel Bay.
3. The Maritime Museum
   The building was originally erected in 1901 to serve as a grain and sawmill. It was adapted to serve as a unique Maritime Museum and houses the impressive life-size replica of Bartolomeu Dias's Caravel, the ship in which he sailed into Mossel bay in the year 1488.

   The Shell Museum houses an impressive shell collection, as well as an imaginative exhibition about the use of shells by man.
5. Post Office Tree
   In 1500, Pedro de Ataide, Commander of one of Cabral's ships, left a letter of importance in a shoe or iron pot under or near a large tree. In 1501, this letter was found by Joao da Nova, Commander of the Third East India Fleet en route to India. In this way, the first Post Office in South Africa was founded.

Protea Hotel Mossel Bay conference venue known as The Ochre Conference Centre, can accomodate a maximum of 120 persons. The various room styles depict the number, with the maximum in Cinema Style. A Boardroom set up can accomodate a maximum of 52 persons, and 100 persons in a Banquet style.
