Attractions

The Protea Hotel Marine Port Elizabeth is located within walking distance of the City Centre, Opera House, Campanile, Fort Frederick and much of the city's Settler heritage. One of the major tourist attractions in Port Elizabeth, the Port Elizabeth Museum complex, is situated along Marine Drive on the beachfront at Humewood and comprises the museum, Oceanarium, Snake Park and Tropical House.

There are a number of guided tours available, including City Tours and various game reserves - Shamwari and Addo Elephant National Park. For the more adventurous, there are a number of Eco-tours and superb diving spots in the Friendly City. Browsing around at one of the local shopping centres is a treat, as is a stroll through Art in the Park, which takes place on the first Sunday of each month. Alternatively, Beachfront Traders over a weekend is worth a visit.

LA MER RESTUARANT
Fine dining is what the La Mer has always been about.  Previously named The Connought, the La Mer restaurant was newly refurbished and renamed in early 2008. The new furnishings at the La Mer are a handsome affair of rich, dark woods and stylish ribbed-chair backs which create an impressive contrast with the crisp whiteness of the table cloths and silverware. The more august décor bring a nautical feel with maritime wall hangings and refined, but equally chic, shades of creams, beiges and greys.
The dinner buffet is a sumptuous lay-out of enticing fare from the soup, starters, salads and breads, through to the extensive selection of hot main dishes, and then onto hot rich desserts, cheese and biscuits, and coffee. You really need to take time to savour each course!
The comprehensive wine list is exactly what you would expect from a hotel of this calibre.  Wines to compliment each pallet and dish are available.
