Location

Protea Hotel Mafikeng is about 300km west of Johannesburg - a comfortable three-hour drive.

There are three main ways to reach the town, all of them through vast rolling farmlands and scenic small towns

1. From Johannesburg via Ventersdorp and Lichtenburg
2. From Johannesburg via Magaliesburg and Lichtenburg
3. From Rustenburg via Zeerust

Directions

From Johannesburg via Rustenburg (Tollgate route)

1. Take the N4 from Pretoria towards Rustenburg
2. Pass through Hartebeesport and then Rustenburg
3. Continue straight along the N4
4. Pass through Groot-Marico until you reach Zeerust
5. On entering Zeerust, take the R47 to Mafikeng
6. The R47 becomes Shipping Street on entering Mafikeng
7. At first set of traffic lights, turn right into Nelson Mandela Drive
8. Continue straight along Nelson Mandela and the Protea Hotel Mafikeng will be on the right hand side

Directions from Johannesburg via Ventersdorp

1. Take the N14 to Krugersdorp
2. Continue along this road through Ventersdorp until you reach Coligny
3. At Coligny, take the R503 to Lichtenburg
4. Follow the R503 through Litchenburg until you reach Mafikeng
5. On entering Mafikeng, the R503 becomes Nelson Mandela Drive
6. Continue straight along Nelson Mandela and the Protea Hotel Mafikeng will be on the right hand side
