PROTEA HOTEL FRANSCHHOEK JOINS THE PROTEA PORTFOLIO - April 2007

Protea Hotels has announced that they have acquired the The Franschhoek Inn, to be renamed Protea Hotel Franschhoek. Overlooking the majestic mountains and famous vineyards of the historical village of Franschhoek, the hotel prides itself on its charming ambiance, gracious style and attentive service. 'We have been searching for the ideal property in Franschhoek for a long time, hoping to add a property in this historical town to our Western Cape portfolio,' said Bernard Cassar, Cape Regional Director for Protea Hotels.

Located in one of South Africa's leading culinary and wine-tasting destinations, the hotel itself has a rich history, with one section dating back to the 1880s. Protea Hotel Franshhoek offers 30 spacious rooms all with en suite bathrooms, as well as a number of luxury suites. This is in addition to a restaurant, conference facilities, and well-stocked vinotique.

The conference centre has facilities for 50 delegates, and offers new-technology audio-visual equipment. Conference packages can be customised to include accommodation, meals and various leisure activities.

The convenient location makes it the ideal base from which to explore Franschhoek's culinary reputation, art galleries, cheese factories and some 25 wine estates. Various outdoor activities, such as horse-riding, golf, backpacking and trout-fishing, can also be arranged.

The Protea Hotel Franschhoek is being managed by the acting Genernal Manager, Douglas Morrison, previously F&B Manager at Protea Hotel President.
