The Hotel

Protea Hotel Chipata is located on the outskirts of Chipata town. This new addition to the Protea Hotels Zambia portfolio has been recently constructed on Umodzi Highway; the entrance to Chipata town from Katete, three hours drive from South Luangwa National Park and only 15km from the Malawi border and 130km from Lilongwe; the capital city of Malawi. Chipata is a scenic town surrounded on all sides by hills, hence, its name meaning “gateway”.
Ideal for both leisure and business travellers Protea Hotel Chipata offers 40 bedrooms all with en suite bathrooms, air conditioning, electronic door locks, electronic safes, satellite TV, tea and coffee making facilities, telephone as well as free wireless internet access.

The hotel offers a modern restaurant, Mulombe Restaurant, with an outside terrace area, overlooking the swimming pool and spacious gardens, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a sports bar at the hotel, called Kumana Lounge, which is open from 10h00 until 22h00 daily.
Conference facilities are also available for up to 80 delegates in the two combined conference rooms namely Luangwa 1 and Luangwa 2. Other hotel facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, free wireless internet access throughout the hotel and secure open parking.

Tourist attractions in Chipata include the Kanjala Hill and the Central Mosque. Located to the north-eastern part of the town, the Kanjala Hill offers panoramic and spectacular views of almost the entire town and region. The Central Mosque poses as the most marvellous building in the town. The structure reflects unique and exquisite art and architecture. This mosque is located along the Mosque Road.

Tourists can also take a tour of the South Luangwa National Park which is approximately three hours drive from Chipata. The national park has an abundance of exotic wildlife of the region and features a wildlife sanctuary where one can go for safaris, game viewing and bird watching. To mention a few of the rare African species, these comprise of Cookson’s Wildebeest, Puku, Thornicroft’s Giraffe, Antelope, Wild Dogs and Leopards. Among the other widely seen animals, Hippopotamus and Elephants are more common. This park forms a natural habitat to numerous species of birds.

Features

The Mulombe restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering either a la carte or buffet meals depending on the number of GUESTS. The outside terrace area overlooking the spacious gardens and swimming pool offers an ideal venue for al fresco dining.

Kumana Lounge offers an ideal venue for a relaxed get together.

The conference facilities comprise of two conference rooms, namely Luangwa 1 and Luangwa 2, with a breakaway room available. The total capacity of the conference facilities is 80 delegates.

Luangwa 1 can seat up to 54 delegates in a “U” shape setting and up to 60 delegates in a Cinema setting. Luangwa 2 can seat 20 delegates in a boardroom setting. Combined they can accommodate 80 delegates.

Hire of the conference facilities include writing pads, pens, mints, cordials, water, white boards, soft boards, screen, markers, flipcharts and paper. Additional equipment is also available on request including a data projector and a PA system.

30 double bedded deluxe rooms
Consist of 1 king size bed extra length, writing desk, 1 armchair and en suite bathroom.
Room can accommodate 2 people.

10 twin bedded deluxe rooms
Consist of 2 single beds extra length, writing desk, 1 armchair and en suite bathroom.
Room can accommodate 2 people.

Two of these rooms can inter-lead with the double bedded deluxe room mentioned above to create an inter-leading room consisting of a double room with its own bathroom and a twin bedded room also with its own bathroom.
When sold as a family room these rooms can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children.
