The Junction Where Hospitality Skills Are Shared

Creating an enabling environment for emerging entrepreneurs and growing the hospitality industry skills base is the rationale behind a “twinning” agreement that has just been put in place between Cape Town’s Protea Hotel Victoria Junction and The Junction Guesthouse as part of its Enterprise Development Initiative.

The guesthouse in Thornton, Cape Town is owned by Khanyisa Balfour and represents the realisation of her long held ambition to own and operate her own guest house after a successful corporate and academic career spanning more than 20 years.

In terms of the partnership, Protea Hotel Victoria Junction GM Pieter Buitendag and his management TEAM will provide industry expertise and training in helping Balfour run a successful and professional establishment.

“As part of the partnership our management TEAM has consulted with Khanyisa and visited the Junction Guesthouse to give advice on structures and how best she can comply with industry standards.

“We have assisted with the training of The Junction Guesthouse STAFF in housekeeping, food preparation and front of house management,” Buitendag said.

Balfour says that she is committed to providing her GUESTS with a warm and homely experience every time they visit The Junction Guest House and a big part of creating that experience is based on the skills she is gaining through this partnership “There are so many facets to the industry, from procurement to marketing, food preparation to GUEST service to take into account.

“My TEAM and I are looking forward to learning as much as we can and implementing these skills, thereby making The Junction Guest House sustainable and profitable.
