THE Protea Hotels 12-member Mo Bro squad led by CEO Arthur Gillis got hairy for a very good cause in November and managed to raise nearly R20 000 for cancer research.
The Protea Bros raised the most money out of the country’s hotel groups taking part in the cancer awareness initiative, and the 12th most in South Africa overall.
According to the official South African Movember website, the funds raised in SA support the number one and two male-specific cancers - prostate and testicular cancer. The funds raised are directed to programs run directly by Movember and its men’s health partner, the Cancer Association of South Africa. The organisations work together to ensure that Movember funds support a broad range of innovative, world-class programs in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.
Gillis said he was immensely proud of his hairy cohorts’ efforts to raise funds for a cause that affected so many men globally.
“CSI initiatives are extremely important to us. Every Protea or African Pride hotel has at least one CSI project and most have far more than that. The Protea head office also supports several charitable organisations, including Reach for a Dream. Corporate social investment is a critical part of building a better and stronger South Africa,” Gillis said.
Protea Hotels’ Mo Bros raised a total of R19, 534, which was a drop in the ocean, they said, compared to the relief of putting razor to top lip on the morning of December 1!
