The African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel culinary TEAM led by Executive Chef Hanroe Erasmus won the best dish award at the Taste of Joburg this weekend, beating chefs from 13 other top eateries, including three-time winner and Masterchef SA judge Andrew Atkinson.
Erasmus’ Kudu Wellington with baby spring vegetables and a port jus came out tops after voting by the 22 000 discerning members of the public who attended the 6th annual event held at Montecasino.
A delighted Erasmus said he was humbled and gratified by the award. “The Kudu Wellington is a dish that I worked at perfecting for a long time, and I think what we presented at the Taste of Joburg Festival made all the hard work worth it.”
Erasmus understands the good life and the cuisine that goes with it, because he has spent most of his working life in 5-star hotels and restaurants, creating dishes that are culinary works of art. He has for the past two years honed his skills overseeing 5 food outlets in the African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel, including the 100-seater fine dining restaurant March. He has previously worked at moyo in Pretoria and Trent’s, the fine dining 80-seater restaurant at St Andrew’s Boutique Hotel in Joburg.
African Pride Hotels Group Marketing and Advertising Manager Nicholas Barenblatt said the hotel’s TEAM had done them proud at the festival.
