Polokwane is the economic centre of the Limpopo Province, with all the modern technology and twenty-first century conveniences, including good private hospitals, and schools and the Limpopo University. The city is still small enough to remain friendly. The city has its own international airport called Gateway International Airport (IATA: PTG, ICAO; FAPP) and regular daily flights are available to and from the Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport. Rental cars are readily available at the Gateway International Airport in Polokwane. The economy is driven by government expenditure to develop the rural communities as well as farming communities and several platinum and diamond mines. The shopping centres, such as Limpopo Mall, Savannah Mall and Mall of the North are frequented by tourists from neighbouring Zimbabwe and Botswana as well as the local Limpopo residents. - Platjan border post with Botswana is 172.2km North West of Polokwane. The night life is a little quiet, but the city has wide variety of restaurants to choose from. Other activities which may interest travellers include cinemas, paintball, gambling and ten pin bowling. Sport activities are readily available, such as golf, jukskei, cricket, rugby and soccer which is often played in the Peter Mokaba Stadium. The climate is great! Mostly blue skies and sunshine, even during the winter months; an ideal tourist destination as it is also situated centrally in the Limpopo Province and surrounded by some exciting places to visit and things to do. The tourist sites are not overly commercialised, and are reasonably priced. A visit to Africa is incomplete without a visit to the Limpopo Province, using Polokwane as your base. |
