Hamburger Aerodynamics And The Graceful Flight Of Fast Food...

There is a deep philosophical question plaguing all at Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Cape Town and that question is: “How aerodynamic is a hamburger?” Or phrased another way, does fast food fly? Captain Jody, Amazing Dave, Burger Wings and The Other Guy, collectively known at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice Red Bull Flugtag TEAM, are praying that hamburgers really do soar – when they aren’t flapping their arms, wings, or flippers over the hotel’s swimming pool practicing how to be weightless ahead of the Big Day. Sadly, it’s a task the TEAM has yet to master and Captain Jody’s plan of sending Gravity a polite note of request to go and bother the other contestants has so far borne little fruit (which isn’t terribly aerodynamic either!) The Red Bull Flugtag takes place on December 9, when TEAMS of would-be aviators fling themselves and their hand-made flying machines off the end of a pier at the V&A Waterfront to see who can stay air-borne longest in the most creative contraption. Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! is the only hotel TEAM in South Africa taking part this year and Captain Jody is convinced they’ll be runaway – or flyaway – winners. “How can we fail with the brute strength of Burger Wings to power us along? And The Other Guy has made loads of paper aeroplanes so our design can’t fail!” Their colleagues at Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Cape Town will be lining the pier on Flugtag to send their hamburger soaring to the heavens with their lusty cheers. Captain Jody is also inviting the edgy, urban hotel’s thousands of fans to join them at the V&A Waterfront on December 9 and spur them on to victory. “Ja, it’s going to be a breeze to beat the other sinkers,” says Captain Jody, “We’re going to be the absolute best, but please – if you see us flashing past Robben Island and the south-easter is blowing a hoolie, send out the rescue squad because we haven’t figured out how to build the brakes!” -end-
