Nicknamed 'the wine and food capital of the Cape', the many restaurants and eateries in Franschhoek have gained recognition around the globe, and the village forms part of the well-known wine route. Methode Cap Classique is one of the more famous brands produced in Franschhoek. Cuisine ranges from traditional Cape dishes to extravagant French feasts.

Franschhoek has many other activities and attractions available, such as The Huguenot Memorial and Museum, the Jan Joubert's Gat Bridge (one of South Africa's oldest bridges), the Dutch Reformed Church, craft and antique shops, as well as walks and trails. The surrounding areas contain beautiful scenery, especially the Mount Rochelle Nature Reserve.
