Midmar Mile - 8&9 February 2014 Comrades Marathon - 01 June 2014 Host to many family adventures and outings, Pietermaritzburg has something for everyone. The KZN Railway Museum offers trips to the Midlands on restored steam trains. You can also visit the Scottsville racecourse, one of the country's top courses.

The adventurous at heart can choose from taking a "flip" over the city in a small plane, to paragliding, microlighting, gliding and parachuting/skydiving. Jet skiing, tubing, kayaking, wind surfing and white water rafting are also available, as well as mountain biking, 4x4 trails, rock climbing, abseiling and kloofing.

With its many malls and craft markets, Pietermaritzburg is a shopping haven for visitors. Places to choose from include the modern Liberty Midlands Mall, and also five craft markets.

These markets sell a variety of items, ranging from antiques and knick-knacks, to local craftsmanship.
