There are over four hundred ostrich farms around Oudtshoorn. Three of these farms have achieved the status of show farms. For a glimpse into the past, you can take a guided tour of the historical buildings and museums in the town. The CP Nel Museum showcases the ostrich feather boom of South Africa.

Oudtshoorn also caters for the outdoor sportsperson, offering horse riding, white water rafting facilities, an impressive eighteen-hole golf course and miniature aircraft adventures. Car enthusiasts can participate in 4x4 trails, and bike and hiking enthusiasts have their veritable pick of routes surrounding the area. The Swartberg Pass is a splendid drive and has been declared a national monument.

This little town is host to the KKNK, the annual Klein Karoo Nationale Kunsfees (Small Karoo Art Festival)
This festival features South African artists, musicians, performers, comedians, crafts and traditions, and is usually attended by over one hundred thousand culture-lovers
