The Protea Hotel Edward & Conference Centre is one of Port Elizabeth's famous landmarks and definitely part of the city's heritage - situated at the top of the Donkin Reserve, in the historical quarter of the city. Commanding a magnificent view of the city and harbour, the Protea Hotel Edward & Conference Centre was built around 1900 and, as a result of careful maintenance, still retains a distinctive Edwardian flavour.

There are two restaurants at the hotel - The Edward Carvery for breakfast, lunch and dinner or the Palm Court for upmarket pub lunches. Also available for GUESTS is the Place Belmont bar, ideal for sundowners. There is car park at the rear of the hotel with parking for 23 cars. Babysitting can be arranged.

Sporting Facilities
St George's Park is 1km away. Bowls, swimming, tennis and a jogging circuit close by. Port Elizabeth Golf Club is 4km away. Surfing, diving and swimming at the beach (5km away). There is a gymnasium close to the hotel.

Attractions

The Protea Hotel Edward and Conference Centre is within walking distance of the City Centre, Opera House, Campanile, Fort Frederick and much of the city's Settler heritage.

The Port Elizabeth Museum complex, one of the major tourist attractions, is situated along Marine Drive on the beachfront at Humewood and comprises the museum, Oceanarium, Snake Park and Tropical House.

There are a number of guided tours available, including City Tours and various games reserves - Shamwari and Addo Elephant Park. For the more adventurous, there are a number of Eco-tours and superb diving spots in the Friendly City.

Shopping at one of the local centres is a treat, as is a stroll through Art in the Park, which takes place on the first Sunday of each month. Alternatively, visit Beachfront Traders over a weekend.

Algoa Bay boasts 40km of magnificent beaches and, with its perfect combination of warm water, calm sea and fair breezes, it is one of the best sailing venues in the world and a mecca for all beach and watersport enthusiasts.
