20 Year Milestone for Protea Hotel Saldanha Bay

It’s lasted longer than many marriages and the relationship is still strong. This month marks the 20th anniversary of the Protea Hotel Saldanha Bay joining the Protea Hospitality Group’s portfolio and long may the union last, say both parties.

Managing Director of the Saldanha Group, Alan Silverman, said the property had been in his extended family for about 90 years. “My family has a house across the road from the hotel. A little more than 20 years ago, during the Christmas holidays our Saldanha house was overflowing with family and friends so we chose to stay at the hotel. It was in a bad state and it was then that we decided that the Saldanha Group should buy the hotel and restore the building to its former glory.”

Silverman said the association with Protea Hotels was built on a solid foundation. “The Protea staff has always done a great job and they give the hotel its personality. Twenty years is a long time in any relationship and it is safe to say that the partnership with Protea Hotels has been successful and happy”.

Protea Hotels co-founder and CEO Arthur Gillis said two decades was a tremendous milestone. “Protea is about family. We consider ourselves a family of hotels, each one unique and each one special. Our business is about long-term relationships. Protea Hotels has been in existence for 25 years and we aim to see each and every one of our more than 120 hotels remaining in the family for the 25 years to come.”

Remodelled to create an atmosphere of space and light, Protea Hotel Saldanha Bay occupies a magnificent waterfront position only 80 minutes' drive from Cape Town. Protea Hotel Saldanha Bay offers excellent accommodation with a choice of standard or superior rooms and suites; a first class restaurant, attractive lounge and cocktail bar and an indoor barbecue area, as well as a games room with pool, table tennis, darts and kids play area.

The hotel has its own slipway and jetty and the bay is a haven for fishing and watersport enthusiasts. It is the ideal base from which to explore the West Coast, discovering quaint fishing villages, abundant bird life, wild flowers, the seafood route and the magnificent Langebaan lagoon.

Offering a superb choice of conference venues, with seating for up to 300 delegates, combined with a variety of popular teambuilding options and themed dinners, the Protea Hotel Saldanha Bay has the perfect solution for all conference needs. There is also a Business Centre at the hotel, with free internet access for GUESTS.

The Mussel Cracker Restaurant is also a highlight of any stay at the Protea Hotel Saldanha Bay. Overlooking the Tranquil Bay, diners can eat at the water’s edge with a perfect view of the sunrise in the morning and the Moon rise at dinner time.
